This year's theme for the NY Village Halloween Parade is honoring the communal fire used to light each villager's hearth in ancient autumn celebrations. In this spirit New Yorkers for a Department of Peace are marching dressed up as dancing flames to light up the night with our "passion for peace"! So drape yourself in red, orange, yellow and gold flowing fabric and get ready to have a blazing hot good time!!

Sooo.....is anybody going? i haven't gone to any for awhile cause it just seemed a waste since the war was clearly not stopping any time soon, but this one seems like it might be a great opportunity with the impeachment stuff going on. Its already looking to be really huge, which means the more people that get out in the streets, the more we can show how the American people aren't standing for this shit!!!

i even had an idea for a costume contingent.....everyone should wear peach. or big hats in the shape of peaches. get it?
i'm peach =impeach LOL :P
too bad its too last minute to really organize anything...feel free to dress up as peaches in your own home town though! ;-)

Hi Everybody

I just wanted to spread the word that a bunch of activists for the campaign for a Department of Peace (www.dop-campaign.org) will be marching in the NYC Village Halloween Parade this year. We're dressing up as non-violent super heroes and we'd love it if you joined us!

If that sounds too hard for a costume, really all you need is a mask & a cape (gloves & boots if you've got em) then you could just be yourself, because you're super for trying to help along the Department of Peace!!!

Here's the meet-up info, please spread this around if you know anyone else who might be interested:

Non-Violent Super Hero Halloween!

What: Join us costumed as your favorite non-violent Super Hero to march with a DoP banner & give out flyers in the Village Halloween Parade.

When: Monday, October 31, 2005 at 6:30

Where: We will gather together at the NW corner of Spring Street and Thompson then move towards the parade entry at 7pm. Note: The official parade line-up is on 6th Avenue South of Spring Street between 6:30 and 8 p.m . Approach the area ONLY from the South and East--Spring, Broome and Dominick Streets WEST of 6th Avenue will NOT be entry points this year and the Spring Street Subway stop will be closed. Come up from Canal Street to avoid confusion !

Contact: RSVP to rev.dawn@care2.com if you're going to come and would like a cell phone number to contact us in case you get lost.

Earth Celebrations Spring Pageant May 21st 2005!

I cant wait! I think I might just show up that day though and follow the parade around, with my dissertation I can't do all 40 gardens again this year, I think a day off might do me good. But I' still not sure, we'll see.

Anyone else plannin on going?

Its spring! That means Earth Celebrations is getting busy for their day-long procession of giant puppets and costume garden characters on Saturday May 21, 2005 (raindate: Sunday May 22nd). It visits over 40 gardens in New York City's East Village with performance, music, dance, and poetry! Free workshops start are being held every Wed. & Sat. at 638 East 6th Street, New York, NY and sign-ups for volunteers have already started (or you can just show up that day) See http://www.earthcelebrations.com for more information.
